Pioneer FCU want's to help support this incredible fundraiser event. This organization was brought to us by a staff member, who's family is directly affected by this disease.

Here is their families story:

"My name is Jessica and I'm part of a hemophilia family. I carry the disease, inherited from my father, in my DNA. My son Jacobi is affected, and my daughters carry the gene, and they will all pass it on to their children.

Hemophilia is a bleeding disorder that affects a person's ability to clot when bleeding occurs. When injured, a hemophiliac needs intervention to control bleeding. An even bigger issue is the spontaneous bleeding hemophiliacs experience. Most of the time, it is internal bleeding, commonly in joints and sometimes in more serious life-threatening areas. The damage caused by bleeds is irreversible. So, prevention is priceless.

As a teen in the 60's, my dad had no treatment options and dealt with a huge amount of pain and limitations. Now in his 70's he can barely walk and cannot fully extend his arms because of the damage hemophilia has caused.

This obviously is a cause for great concern and stress. These concerns mean those affected must alter their lives to treat, accommodate and prevent bleeds. A huge worry is the cost. The average cost of treating hemophilia in the US is just under $400,000 annually.

This is why this fundraiser is so important to us. The hemophilia foundation provides education, assistance, programs, and activities crucial to our bleeding disorder community. They help us educate and prepare teachers for affected kids in their schools. They help us acquire the best insurance and grants to cover the cost of vital medications. They bring families together who all share the same struggles. They send all the kids to summer camp and fun activities with nurses to give them some normalcy without worry.

My son Jacobi, who has severe hemophilia A, has friends and community with the foundation. He has medication and treatment options that allow him to live a life without pain, unlike the generations before him, because of the research and advancements the foundation helps fund. Hemophilia treatment has come a long way since the 60’s, but even today, there are very few doctors and nurses who understand what hemophilia is and how to treat it. This foundation helps so much to educate and assist hospitals when an emergency arises because it is such a rare disorder."

Every dollar stays within our community and supports critical initiatives such as funding research to find better treatments, educating medical providers on the latest innovations and care, ensuring families have access to quality healthcare and providing access to the best educational resources available.
